The $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund is aimed at broadening Australia's domestic industrial base and reducing the nation's dependence on imports. But how will it do this?

abc.net.au/news/federal-government-s-15-billion-manufacturing-fund-passes-senate/102157030The federal government is celebrating the passage of its manufacturing investment scheme, the National Reconstruction Fund, through the Senate after it landed the support of the crossbench.

On Tuesday independent senators David Pocock and Lidia Thorpe as well as the two senators from the Jacqui Lambie Network also agreed to back the Fund.A significant election commitment, the fund has been designed to invest in renewables and low emissions technologies; medical science; transport; value-add in agriculture, forestry and fisheries; value-add in resources; defence capability; and enabling capabilities.

Revenue generated through the fund's investments would then be reinvested to support new projects with the board to decide which projects receive funding support.

yay! stuff build like Commondores.

How they going to clear the trees

It won't. It's like a drop in a bucket.

CEOs banks and the government are to greedy want workers unskilled for nothing while expecting them to cover the cost through taxes and high cost of living

People don’t want to do a trade because 1 st. Year apprentice 7-9 $$ less than minimum wage it’s that simple

No unfortunately, current labour shortages and some of the highest wages in the region mean we will never be able to compete. The government knows this otherwise we would be building our own subs

It won't. Just another enormous waste of taxpayer dollars.

It will probably receive political bribes like they do now.

It won’t.

All for bring back manufacturing I just don't believe it can be done in a self sufficient profitable way But I hope it happens

It won't. Labor don't have a clue how to help manufacturing. Here's an idea. Cut red tape, offer tax breaks particularly for robotics, keep wage increases under control, supply cheap fossil fuel energy. None of this will happen.

It won't.

China perhaps

Guess, since we share values with US, it will work just like build back better in US Like in Ohio

Labor’s 650,000 migrants will work for peanuts in his federal factories manufacturing rainbow flags.

380 billion probably could have done it

Article doesn't say it's to support Aus businesses. Is this $15 billion which will be used by foreign companies? Is their an Aus ownership threshold? Or all to be sold off as usual?

15 billion to rebuild Australian manufacturing? They are kidding. Besides how do we compete when our govt legislated against cheaper energy. China uses cheap energy and dominates

will it work? Not without cheap energy coal can provide!

lol The ABC is on message for Albo Remember all the puff pieces from the ABC whenever Scomo released policy? Me neither

It won’t. Aust wages & other production costs too high, uncompetitive. Imports way cheaper & same, sometimes superior, quality. This will fail miserably. There is a reason we don’t make much anymore, its too expensive.
