According to Bloomberg , Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the government will consider the concerns voiced by countries like the US and the UK. However, Chinese companies won't be ruled out for the second 5G network. He said the Malaysian government will not have any direct contractual obligation with such network equipment providers and that the ones that need to be convinced are the local telco operators.

Of course, companies that want the contract to this second 5G network contract must bid through an open tender process. Proposals are expected to be forwarded to the parliament by 2024, so we won't know the result anytime soon. The minister also said that the government plans to look into strengthening existing laws on network operators, likely in hopes of improving the quality of the networks and services provided.
