Celebrated fashion designer Kym Ellery defends her handling of the 2019 collapse of her Australian business.

And that's what Kate did, when she looked at Ellery Land's books.

Kym Ellery says the "Ellery" trademark was sold to a related company in 2016, but only completed in 2019 — two weeks before a liquidator was appointed. Liquidator records show The Holy Mountain — owned by Kym Ellery — was a "secured" creditor, which means it was among those first in line to get paid when the company went under. It received about $170,000.

She puts it partly down to the nature of the fashion industry, where it can take months for a design to start generating profits.
