It started in the early morning hours of Feb. 1 and reached four alarms, according to the coverage in the Feb. 2, 1999 edition of the Patriot-News. Firefighters were dispatched to the market at 900 Market St. at 12:48 a.m. after residents on 10th Street spotted the fire, according to the Patriot-News story. With flames shooting an estimated 100 feet into the night sky, the blaze was visible for miles.
