Rack, which started life in Stockport, has announced plans to open their first city centre store next week which will serve their now-iconic hoagies and bagels alongside other freshly-made goods. Alongside their flagship, Rack also has a stall at Stretford Food Hall and recently opened a store in Sale.
Unveiling details of their fourth store on Instagram, Rack said they would be opening in the Arndale on Monday after taking over the former premises owned by plant-based eatery Panc, which left the Arndale Market in May.
“We’re kicking things off by opening 9:30 - 17:30 from Monday 7th August. Bob on down and say hi! It’s perfect for picking up food on your commute through the centre or a spot of lunch on your day out in Manchester.” Replying to the post, people were quick to get excited about the prospect of dining out on Rack’s notorious sandwiches in the city. One said: “2023 is the year of the Rack!” Another posted: “Wow this is great news,” whilst another added: “YESS. Well done you guys are smashing it.”
Rack started life serving sandwiches out of a mobile van in Stockport in 2018 before unveiling its first sandwich shop on Lawrence Street in 2021. Reviewing their chicken bloomer sandwich earlier this year, the M.E.N’s Ben Arnold wrote it was ‘as fresh as could be, soft like a pillow’.
