Sayers was fined for his involvement in a company put together to bid for a billion-dollar federal visa processing contract, Australian Visa Processing. The AVP project, which ultimately did not go ahead, became controversial inside the firm because senior partners, including Sayers, had attempted to make a personal investment in the company without informing the broader partnership.
