Monday's proposed rules would include specifying what forms of age verification would be acceptable, how social media companies would verify parental consent, and lay down rules on how long a child's information can be retained. “Low-cost technologies already exist for these companies to verify the ages of their users while also protecting their privacy," said Margaret Woolley Busse, executive director of the Utah Department of Commerce. . As such, this rule puts the onus on the social media companies to accurately age verify and obtain parental consent.
