SAFA has described the Hawks raid on its Johannesburg offices on Friday as shameful.

The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit, a division of the Hawks, searched the SAFA headquarters in Nasrec in connection with allegations of fraud and theft, linked to SAFA President Danny Jordaan.

The Hawks says between 2014 and 2018, the football association’s president used the organisation’s resources for his personal gain, including hiring a private security company for his personal protection.According to the Hawks, there are allegations of fraud and theft amounting to R1.3 million. SAFA says it believes the search was unlawful, malicious and not conducted in terms of the directives of a warrant given to them.

The association says it is aware of the amount and it is satisfied that it was for services rendered, for which contracts can be provided. SAFA says it believes some members of the police have been compromised and are being used in the abuse of state resources, adding that there is no money missing from its purse.
