KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Thursday after the US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) opted to keep the Federal Funds Rate (FFR) steady at 5.50 per cent, which further strengthens the local note.

BATU PAHAT: The Batu Pahat Municipal Council has revoked the business licence of Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, the supplier embroiled in the socks controversy.

The council issued a notice to revoke the company’s licence and instructed it to cease operations, it said in a statement. Council president Ezahar Abu Sairin served the notice to Xin Jian Chang director Soh Hui San at Menara MPBP, saying that its activities had gone against its licensing terms. “The council’s action is in accordance with MPBP’s by-laws governing trade, business and industrial licensing,” it added.On Wednesday, the company had put up a banner at the front gate of its factory in Sri Gading here, displaying an apology message.The banner stated that the company sincerely apologises for its unintended mistake that led to the sock issue.
