Scottish Fisherman,Sustainable Fishing,Industry Prize

Ian Wightman, a Scottish fisherman known for his sustainable fishing methods, has been nominated for the Under 10 Metre Fisherman of the Year category at the 2024 Fishing News Awards. Wightman's catch has been purchased by renowned figures such as Gordon Ramsay, Simon Cowell, and the late Queen. He promotes the fishing industry in the local area and has contributed to the development of greener and more efficient fishing technologies.

A Scots fisherman whose produce has been bought by Gordon Ramsay, Simon Cowell and the late Queen is up for a prestigious industry prize.

These include innovative nets with underwater cameras, sensors and repelling LED lights to reduce “bycatch” of unwanted fish and mammals like dolphins and help the marine environment. He told the Record: “We've got a high-quality product. Everything I land goes away and is sold for a live market. The prize is up to the public to decide - with just a day to go until a free online vote closes at midnight on Monday.

Clyde fisherman Ian began his career as a ‘pier pest’ when he was just 16, catching ropes from boats tying up and getting paid in fish – which he would fillet and hawk around to his neighbours.
