Picture: Sky News Australia Mr Chalmers has hinted at an impending surplus in the budget but Ms Hume asserted any gains touted by the government are merely a byproduct of external factors. Bracket creep will supposedly deliver greater tax revenues to the government as low- and middle-income earners are pushed into higher tax brackets as inflation rises but tax brackets remain stagnant.
