European equity indices are struggling for direction Thursday, as investors await the release of important U.S.inflation data for more clues over the start of the Fed’s rate-cutting cycle.
Fed officials have repeatedly called for more information to confirm that inflation has been tamed before they would vote for an easing of monetary policy. More worrying was a 2.7 million barrel build in gasoline inventories, which indicated that fuel consumption remained weak even with the onset of the travel-heavy summer season.
