Tech companies have not been constrained by the hierarchies and conventions that legacy organizations have historically ingrained in their structure or culture. As a result, tech leaders have always been able to think differently about their company’s culture, approach, or their leadership style. This is especially true for startups, as the attitude and actions of leadership even more define culture.

A human-centric mindset prioritizes employees' and customers' needs, experiences and well-being. At Gearset, this means the focus is on building software that solves genuine user problems and on building a company that supports our engineers in doing so.At a strategy level, human-centricity is critical to the success of tech companies because it’s easy to lose.

• Flexibility. Being able to adapt based on this feedback. It also allows users to use your technology to meet their specific needs. It gives employees the flexibility to work in the best way for them. When considering notable tech leaders exemplifying this leadership style, and what stands out about their success, I think back to when Satya Nadella first became CEO of Microsoft. The company was no longer considered an innovator as Microsoft had missed the dot com bubble, the proliferation of mobile phones was increasing, and the advent of social media kicked off. However, Nadella has changed the shape of Microsoft by creating his own form of human-centric culture.
