Red Barn’s new 10,000-square-foot space follows Canadian Tire’s 2018 opening on the site, part of the historic 95-acre Sandown Racetrack property

Red Barn Market is the ­newest tenant of North Saanich’s ­Sandown Park Shopping ­Centre, on land that was once part of the 95-acre Sandown ­Racetrack property.

Initial store hours are 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There’s also a strong local flavour in the store’s decor. The Saanich Historical Artifacts Society, operator of Heritage Acres, donated surplus items, including old farm implements such as milking jugs and wagon wheels.

Red Barn’s principal ownership group consists of Benwell, Peter Hansen, Duncan Davies and Ashley Bourque. Another 11 long-term employees have become minority shareholders.
