A man was taken to hospital following a medical emergency at Market Street tram stop. Part of Manchester's busiest shopping street was taped off on Thursday night , near to Piccadilly Gardens.
Police were seen in attendance alongside paramedics. Transport for Greater Manchester said Metrolink services had been hit by a police incident. In an update issued this morning , Greater Manchester Police confirmed the incident was a medical emergency. Police were called out to the scene by North West Ambulance Service at 8.30pm.The man involved was 'taken to hospital for further treatment', a police spokesperson added. Eyewitnesses reported seeing police and paramedics in front of a stationary tram on Market Street.
Pictures from the scene showed a paramedic car, an ambulance and a number of police vehicles at the scene. The ambulance later left the scene, followed by the tram a short while later, an eyewitness said. Metrolink services stopped running between Piccadilly and Victoria while emergency services worked at the scene. Pedestrians were also reportedly stopped from entering Market Street at the Piccadilly Gardens side.
