Less competition will not ensure higher food quality. Less competition will not benefit store workers’ compensation nor their working conditions.

The Carrs location at 1725 Abbott Road in Anchorage is one of the locations included in the planned divestiture as part of the proposed merger of Kroger and Albertsons.

Alaska’s Congressional delegation and several Alaska lawmakers oppose the deal, which would result in the closure of 18 Carrs grocery stores owned by Albertsons. Those stores are located in Anchorage, Eagle River, Palmer, Wasilla, Girdwood, Kenai Peninsula, Fairbanks, North Pole and Juneau. In recent hearing testimony, Kroger and Albertson attorneys claim the merger would strengthen their ability to compete with Walmart, Amazon and Costco, noting the merger would actually result in lower food prices.
