The North West Umbrella Fire Protection Association Chairperson Erick Stoch has called for a State of Disaster to be declared as fires have spread across the province. According to the Association the situation is expected to worsen amid a 75% probability of extreme fire events within the next 7-10 days.
Farm owners in Rhenosterfontein in Rustenburg in North West continue to battle to contain the wildfires in the area. Wildfires have been ravaging the areas since Saturday Saturday and have caused extensive damage to property and arable land. The North West Umbrella Fire Protection Association confirmed that a child was seriously burnt, and eight houses and a church were destroyed following a fire that broke in Buffelspoort in Magaliesberg as wildfires continue to ravage the province.
