The Morris County man owned several masonry companies and could face up to five years in prison when sentenced, authorities said.

A Morris County man pleaded guilty Thursday to tax evasion for failing to pay nearly $2 million in tax penalties assessed against him by the Internal Revenue Service over an eight-year period.

From 2008 to 2016, the IRS assessed about $650,000 in penalties against Carvella after three of his businesses did not pay federal employment taxes, Sellinger said in a news release.
