SADTU concerned about the nearly 200 000 learners left behind as matric exams commence.

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union has expressed concern that out of the 1.1 million learners who began Grade 10 two years ago, only 827 000 will be writing theThis year, 732 000 full-time and 136 000 part-time candidates are registered to write the National Senior Certificate exams, an increase of 80 400 candidates compared to 2023.

SADTU spokesperson Nomusa Cembi says, “Considerable resources have been invested in study camps to prepare learners for this important milestone. However, SADTU believes that the pressure on these exams can be reduced if the Department of Basic Education allocates equal attention and resources across all grades.”
