Like Warner Bros. Discovery, Comcast is considering breaking off its cable business despite positive news for Peacock during the Olympics.

All the big entertainment companies are singing the same tune these days, and the tune is, “Help! We’re in an unmanageable amount of debt!” With that in mind, it’s starting to get easy to predict what the big guys’ quarterly earnings calls will sound like. Streaming is picking up, but the other parts of the business are doing badly, so big decisions have to be made about the company’s future.

Cavanagh went on to say that the new company would just be cable networks and not NBC’s broadcast operations, but it is otherwise too early in the process for him to comment on specifics. However, the announcement echoesmade by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav earlier this year. This seems like a good indicator of the direction the business is going altogether.
