Mr Daim Zainuddin had served two stints as Malaysia’s finance minister in the latter’s Cabinet from 1984 to 1991 and from 1999 to 2001.
Local press reported that his lawyer, Gurdial Singh Nijar confirmed his death, saying that he was admitted to Assunta Hospital in October. During his first tenure, he played a critical role in restructuring Malaysia’s economy while the second appointment saw him focusing on handling the Asian financial crisis.
