Company wins second chance at transforming Swatara Township hotel into rehab center

A health rehab company has secured approval to turn a Swatara Township hotel into a drug treatment center—and many in the community are voicing their displeasure.

The company said it hoped the changes would help address the community's concerns about the number of people coming into and out of the community. After hours of discussion and arguments from the company and community members, the board approved the company's application for a special exception under a few conditions.

"They have a history of criminal activity — that's how they end up there, because of their substance abuse, so we need to speak the truth and tell the truth up there and not paint a picture and put rosy glasses on everybody on what we're really getting here," said one neighbor.
