Spokesperson for the department Howard Ndaba says these activities which include public drinking, vandalism and inappropriate behaviour such as tearing and writing on school uniforms undermine the values of respect and responsibility that the department strives to instill in learners.
Ndaba has instead encouraged matriculants to donate their school uniforms to needy learners when collecting their statement of results on the 14th of January. “This marks a significant milestone for many and the department urges learners to celebrate responsibly, reflecting dignity and respect for themselves, peers, and communities. While we commend learners for completing this critical chapter, we cannot condone activities that put them and others at risk. Let’s prioritize safety, property respect, and community wellbeing.
