The parties appeared in court last week Thursday seeking relief for the suspected illegal miners.

JUST IN : The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has dismissed the Society for the Protection of Our Constitution’s bid to seek final relief for the suspected Zama-Zama’s underground. Court finds no proof behind the claim that govt’s response to the issue was not measured

The SAPS remains adamant that the illegal miners are not trapped underground, however, they refuse to resurface because they are scared of being arrested., including a 14-year-old boy, who came to the surface last night at shaft 10 which is linked to shaft 11 at the Stilfontein mine “The SAPS remains adamant that there is no illegal miner that is trapped underground and that they simply refuse to resurface because they are avoiding arrest. This is evident with the 14 illegal miners who resurfaced last night at shaft 10 which is linked to shaft 11,” says police spokesperson Atlenda Mathe.

“The SAPS is mandated according to Section 205 of the Constitution to prevent, combat, as well as maintain law and order, and it is against this objective that the SAPS’s role and objective for Operation Vula Umgodi is to prevent, combat and stop illicit mining activities that are taking place in the Stilfontein area,” adds Mathe.

All 14 of the miners who have been arrested are Mozambican nationals and are currently in the process of deportation.
