HP dropped 9% and its market capitalisation was set to shrink by more than $3 billion, from $37.68 billion on Tuesday, following a quarterly profit projection that was short of the market view. A computer upgrade cycle spurred by Microsoft's end of support for Windows 10 and the transition to Windows 11 was expected also to drive new PC sales.
