ByteDance has seen its share of high-skilled worker visas climb over the past few years, despite concerns over its ties to the Chinese government.

Despite its warnings over TikTok's potential national security risks and ties to the Chinese government, the U.S. still allowed the social media platform's parent company to claim nearly 1,000 temporary visas in the past year.The highly sought H-1B visa allows high-skilled foreign workers to come to the U.S.

Like other big tech firms, it is turning to overseas workers over American citizens or residents.Sophie Alcorn, an immigration attorney specializing in high-skilled visas in Silicon Valley, told Newsweek that employers often struggle to fill critical roles with workers already in the country, so they turn to candidates abroad.
