Atlantic City Electric was one of several utility providers criticized for increased energy bills during the summer.

Atlantic City Electric, the utility company that powers millions of homes and businesses in South Jersey, wants to raise rates on its electricity after investing in energy-delivering capabilities to limit outages, according to company officials.

The provider filed a rate increase request on Nov. 21 with the New Jersey Board of Public seeking to use the funds to pay for $109 million in infrastructure work.
