The British Columbia Supreme Court has granted Coastal GasLink an interlocutory injunction against members of a First Nation and others who oppose the company's natural gas pipeline.

The company is building a pipeline from northeastern B.C. to LNG Canada's export terminal in Kitimat on the coast.

She said there is evidence to indicate that the defendants have engaged in deliberate and unlawful conduct for the purpose of causing harm to the plaintiff and preventing it from constructing the pipeline. The First Nation said it is disappointed that the court rendered a decision that contradicts Wet'suwet'en law.

"We are proud of the relationships we've built with all 20 First Nations along the corridor, the significant benefits we continue to deliver to Indigenous and local communities, and the role we are playing in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions," the statement said. "There would be loss of employment opportunities for employees involved in the construction of the export facility and its operation, employees involved in the construction of the pipeline project, and loss of opportunity for members of Indigenous communities to take advantage of training and employment," she wrote.

This is a classic example of a bait and switch. This group calling itself the hereditary chiefs do not in fact represent all the nations but is a corporation looking to negotiate for a sweet payout. This is a registered business looking to extort money from the oil and gas.

Good to hear. Hopefully the elders wont put their people on a protest barricade again so they can get arrested

Good I am not sure the hereditary chiefs are anything more than a cheap trick to try and stop it from proceeding but even if the oppsotte is true they had just as much opportunity during the approval process as anyone else Approval was granted and th result shoud be accepted

Good, hopefully the cops now do their job.

Good. Lefties will be TRIGGERED...

Good.

Finally some common sense and the rule of law prevail.

So those that defend the environment and the climate lose to those bend on destroying it? The government appointed puppet leaders (band councils) are listened to over the legitimate leaders (hereditary Chiefs)? How colonial.

Is this still going on? JFC build the pipeline, bury the fawking thing and forget about it.
