Google Australia Managing Director Melanie Silva dodged questions on the overwhelming dominance of Google’s search share, before admitting to holding 95 per cent of the nation’s search engine market.

Speaking at the Senate Economics Legislation Committee, Ms Silva claimed Google faced “considerable competition” in the monetizable marketing space. She listed Amazon, Gumtree and eBay as serious competitors for Google. However, when questioned further by Liberal Senator Andrew Bragg the Managing Director of Google admitted the ACC had reported Google held a 95 share of general searches.
