In a historic moment for the comics industry, cbwupdx have voted to unionize, making ImageComics the first comic company to do so.

Workers at Image Comics have voted 7-2 in favor of unionizing, the first of its sort in the comics industry. The new union, which will be affiliated with the Communications Workers of America, will represent staffers at Image Comics; writers and artists are considered freelancers and not able to unionize under American labor laws.

The road to the first union in comics is a long one, and fitting that it would involve Image Comics. While Image’s union does not represent creators, it was nevertheless inspired by the long struggles undertaken by generations of creators seeking fair recognition and compensation for their work. Legendary artist Neal Adams was one such activist, and his crusade was carried on by future generations of writers and artists, such as Frank Miller.

The vote to unionize by Comic Book Workers United is a historic moment in the comic book industry, coming after decades of attempts and aggressive union-busting practices. If Comic Book Workers United is successful in their negotiations with Image Comics, it could lead to a domino effect, where staffers at Marvel, DC and others join the union.

In a historic 7-2 vote, staffers at Image Comics have voted to unionize, which is sure to have a major impact on the industry. .item-num::after { content: '/ '; } Share Share Tweet Email 0 Comment What The Punisher's New Logo Is Actually Supposed to Mean Related Topics About The Author Shaun Corley Shaun Corley is a pop culture enthusiast living in the Pacific Northwest.
