With the spate of insecurity, farmer-herder crises and unfavourable weather conditions which seem to have affected progress in the agricultural sector, one wonders when the assumed largest black nation would be at par with world powers in the application of technology to farming.

FOA further noted, “With the increasing population, estimated to reach 400 million by 2050, enhanced agriculture productivity through adaptation of new technologies and innovations is necessary to ensure food security and nutrition.” Today’s agriculture, as practised in developed countries, makes use of sophisticated technologies such as robots, temperature and moisture sensors and GPS.

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture at the United States Department of Agriculture noted that the use of technologies enabled reliable monitoring and management of natural resources which in turn resulted in “greater efficiencies and lowered prices, safe growing conditions and safer goods as well as reduced environmental and ecological impact.”
