A stately heritage-listed home built for the namesake of Australia’s oldest jeweller has sold for a bargain price after seven months on the market, and is the first of many.

According to land title records, the five-bedroom house on an elevated 1400sq m block with pool and views to Botany Bay last exchanged for $380,000 in 1986 and has remained in the Lancaster family until its recent sale.

A grand period residence dating back to between 1901 and 1920, Rose Lodge was believed to be commissioned by businessman Oscar G Roberts who stepped in to help the celebrated jewellers — then known as Lamb & Fairfax — stay afloat after Richard Lamb died in a boating accident in 1876.Fox Valley Rd is itself the jewel in Wahroonga’s crown dotted with some of Sydney’s most magnificent manors, 18 of which are on the state heritage list.

Rose Lodge retains many of its original features including high patterned ceilings, stained glass windows, elegant fireplaces and several modern updates.
