A lack of South Asian greeting cards in the GTA has prompted one Brampton woman to start her own line of cards for Diwali and other holidays.

Shivani Sharma says the idea stemmed from her struggle to find Diwali cards for relatives she couldn't meet up with during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.That came as a huge surprise given the size of the South Asian diaspora in the Toronto area.

Not being able to give personalized cards for everyone in the family was painful for Sharma, she says. Diwali is a five-day festival of light celebrated by Sikhs, Hindus and Jains around the world. It's one of the most colourful and significant festivals in Indian culture.

Shocked Hallmark wasn’t all over this. I mean they did invent this crappy shit.

Let me get this straight. Instead of going ballistic on social media and calling for the cancellation of Hallmark and stores that sell Hallmark, she took some initiative and developed then marketed a product she felt there was a need for. Good for her and I wish her success.

People still send cards? I thought y’all just send half a dozen what’s app greetings with cheesy animations, now a days.

The market provides.

This is why capitalism is a beautiful thing

Oddly enough I don't send out Diwali cards due to lack of variety but I do send out Christmas cards which is kind of ironic.😅

And why would a Canadian general store carry Diwali cards? You've got to be kidding

She couldn't find Duwali cards in Canada, that's weird.

Ugh. 😖

Good idea, see a need, fill that need. Capitalism and freedom provides an opportunity to do that.

Looool omg man

Nice!

Good for her!
