The ecommerce giant could begin the layoffs, which would be the biggest in its history, as soon as this week.

Amazon.com Inc. reportedly plans to lay off thousands of employees as early as this week.. The ultimate number is still to be determined because decisions will be made by division, across units such as devices, retail and human resources, according to the report.

It's unclear how many people the company will cut in Silicon Valley. The Seattle-based company is the region's 10th largest tech employer with more than 5,000 workers here.News of the potential cuts comes less than two weeks after the company told employees it wasTen thousand layoffs would be the most in Amazon's history, representing about 3% of its corporate and tech workforce. But a cut of that size would still be less than 1% of the company's total headcount, which is over 1.
