San Jose Mayor-elect Matt Mahan is not in favor of imposing new taxes on businesses but is open to a look at potential incentives for developers. Mahan made these points and more during an exclusive interview with the Silicon Valley Business Journal on Dec. 19. The SVBJ published the full interview on Friday, two days before Mahan becomes the 66th mayor of the Bay Area's largest city.

Here are highlights from that interview that are of specific interest to the city's business community::"I certainly don't think this is a good time for us to explore tax increases on business or anyone else," Mahan said, when asked about whether it was time to revisit the question of business taxes, which were last increased in a voter-approved referendum in 2016."San Jose has had a jobs deficit, basically, in the modern era.
