They need to walk around the Rockridge plaza. That place is unsafe!!!!

You walk and bike the commercial districts during the day and use cars at night to patrol the commercial districts from burglaries and vandals. There are targeted ways to better use police resources. Also have more resources during higher crime times of the day.

They need to also incorporate bike patrols for more mobility within the commercial districts. It’s all about integrating the officers into the daily fabric of the city. You can’t just be in a car all day clearing calls and not being proactive. Not sure about only working 9 to 5.

This is what’s been missing in our cities!

about time!

I like foot patrol returning to the streets of Oakland to better serve the community. But this needs more police and training. The city needs to support OPD. It takes teamwork to protect a community.

Cops on the beat

good...get the police chief back in his job, while they are at it.

Defund the police advocates will use them as targets

I guess we are done with that other failed experiment

Now do San Francisco.

Wow maybe that will slow down the bad guys? It seems that it should been done early!

Crime weary Oakland small business owners plea for help from city leadersRampant crime in downtown Oakland leaves restaurant owners desperate to find any sort of solution This is in Chinatown. This is not really “downtown Oakland.”This looks like one of those typical fear mongering attacks by the SF media on Oakland’s economy. They get a couple of disgruntled businesses who’ve been hit by crime and then try to fear monger all of downtown Oakland. This fear mongering attack on downtown Oakland claims “rampant crime in downtown Oakland” but provides no recent crime stats to back this up. Just another attempt to try to use crime as an economic weapon against Oakland. The articles uses anecdotes to fear monger. Go talk to the new thriving businesses opening up on and around Broadway by the Hive between Grand and 24th Street. Enough with these targeted fear mongering attacks on downtown Oakland and on Oakland’s economy. We see through this anecdotal fear mongering nonsense.
