Miguel Abreu, a ride-hailing driver, bought a Chevy Tahoe for about $80,000 last summer. He spent about $10,000 getting a commercial license and hiring an accountant to set up a luxury Uber Black business, then bought a Mercedes for $90,000 and lined up another driver for that vehicle. Then, in early December, Uber Technologies Inc. deactivated his account.
One day, Uber asked Abreu to prove he was at the airport, so he sent the company a photo of himself. He was then told the photo’s metadata showed him as being somewhere else. That somewhere else was on an island unreachable by car, pointing to an obvious mistake, he said. Yet after seven years of driving for Uber, he found his account deactivated.“How could that be?” Abreu said he told Uber. “You know I’m an Uber Black driver. I bought this expensive car; I got a commercial license.

The 42-year-old native of the Dominican Republic had recently become a U.S. citizen. Might that have something to do with it?
This week, MarketWatch asked Uber for comment about Abreu’s situation. Within two days, a spokesperson said the company had reversed its decision to deactivate him, which appeared to be based on suspicion of fraud.

Lazy people.
This is genius and it creates a safe space for black people to obtain rides. Next restaurants, then hotels/resorts, then neighborhoods, it forces white people to live amongst their horrible selves.
Try Lyft buddy.
His account has been reactived now. Saved you the click
Awful company for drivers
doesn’t make sense to invest in something that isn’t entirely your control. Shoulda made a limousine company instead
Who’d start a business vulnerable to a single deactivated account by third party
Hahahaha
🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
That's outrageous! It's unacceptable that Uber would deactivate an account after such a large financial investment.
That's incredibly unfortunate. Did the driver have any recourse or explanation for why their account was deactivated?
Sounds like they got quite the 'deal'!
Sad that it takes negative PR for a company to take action and investigate situations
How can I get help? They did the same exact thing to me! Still paying for 2 car loans after going thru a total of 5 throughout years.
Uh, I have questions?
Uber didn’t ask him to commit to this obligation. Next he will complain about “not being paid enough.” When Uber can’t support all the whiners, the public will whine about taking the bus.”
If he wasn't doing anything illegal then, why?
I wonder, if they felt it was actually racist? Aren’t we all equal? What is this shit of starting to promote Black this and Black that? I wonder, is Jane Fonda going to incite death to the Whites now? Or is it just White non elitist males? This is all screwed up.
I'm confused? Didn't he admit to buying a second vehicle and hiring a second driver?
