Coalition of organisations says changes would have ‘devastating impact on press freedom’ and are not in public interest

Media companies have rejected

The proposal, which is not government policy, calls for Australians to gain greater control of their personal information, including the ability to opt out of targeted ads, erase their data and sue for serious breaches of privacy. The department’s report said individuals wanted “more agency to seek redress for interferences with their privacy”.

The Right to Know coalition said the impact would be greatest on smaller media organisations, which would have to cut back on reporting to comply.

Guess we are about to doing the right thing then.

These mostly foreign owned 'media companies' aka opinionated propaganda trash and intrusive advertising and information stealing vehicles, are no longer in the public interest. These laws don't go far enough.

It’ll be 2058 by the time this slow do nothing Labor govt get around to it anyway.

How else can 60 Minutes pointlessly stalk and harrass the subjects of their stories if this comes into effect? Media companies, all take and no give. It's only okay for them to exploit others but not for others to bite back.

Well let’s be honest. Australian media are already corrupt censored puppets that don’t report honestly. Basically just government propaganda fake news outlets.

When the summation of press reporting is heavily saturated on left wing content like alphabet people, indigenous issues and climate change - don't come looking to us for support. You've given the finger to mainstream centrism for years and are crying foul now? Get F'd.
