From the comments below it would appear you have not realised that the UK is uncompetitive due to high taxes needed to pay for an outdated and unsustainable benefits system.
They have planned to stop production of this vehicle in 2021 years ago over fears of diesel pollution from its large engine. It's the remainers scaremongering again.
Cause the EU wants electric cars
They were told by Renault who own over 43% of Nissan shares and the French government who own 15% of Renault, that's why. Brexit
Strange how the EU can do a Free trade deal with Japan with no strings attached. Proves they are trying to keep us tied to the EU or otherwise damage our economy. Nothing but a bunch of bastards, enemies of Britain
Has the BBC paid Sir Cliff yet?
Let me take a guess... the demand for diesels in Europe has declined and will carry on..the future are electric and small petrol engines...Nissan has invested in Sunderland,to manufacturer these vehicles...investing in diesel is like investing in VHS video when DVDs came out
Are the BBC funded by the public? because you do not give a view held by the majority of the people Who is the person at the BBC responsible for setting your political agenda ? Are you receiving money from Right wing groups? It would be nice If you could give some answers.
So public money has been used to bribe a private company to stay in the UK. That's the Tory party thru n thru.
The model that is planned is not for western Europe so does not make sense to build it here, further investment planned for technology so hardly a surprise- no long term change in other plans - PROJECT FEAR
hardy1473 2 out the 3 reasons are brexit related. Granted diesels are taking a hit now but if Japan didnt have a trade agreement with EU and we were still in EU then they would be getting made here. Just as well all the mackems didn't vote to leave then 🤣🤣
UK is moving away from Diesel Cars!
Typical journalistic misinformation from the BBC. Might as well have you article BBCSimonJack printed tomorrow in TheSun or the in DailyMailUK
Don’t you think if Nissan lacked confidence in its UK workforce or the UK economy there would also be a serious consideration for pulling the plug on the UK completely? Have some faith people.
The X trail is not built in Sunderland and never has been, the production for European versions was the only thing that Nissan had said they would move over to the UK. Basically, nothing is changing. Story over.
from what i can find out, the FTA doesn't come in for 8 years, and on other products its 16 years
SharePickers They pulled out because of the tv license increase 😂
Wonderful
why was they getting £80m investment is this another scam or blackmail pay or we move. tax payers money paying blackmail scams from big business
The uncertainty surrounding the build up to Brexit and not Brexit itself. Thats why extending A50 would be such a bad idea. Time to get it done and eradicate those uncertainties one way or another.
Leavers: “it’s a shit car anyway”.
Bottom line: UK is no longer competitive.
Sloppy journalism and now you're back peddling.....sort of. Hatchet job, half hearted attempt at a correct because you got caught out being biased.
Reading that pretty much says Brexit is the main reason with the exception of lower deisel cars sales!
Sales of X trail has slumped 50% in Europe hardly worth stating a new production line in UK , don’t blame Brexit
They are making a car no one wants in today's world.
Brexit, Brexit, Brexit, Brexit, Brexit, oh, and diesel sales are plummeting and are likely to go even further, so they're basically not going to make a diesel version of this car, and local markets don't want a petrol version. Tooling CapEx is a huge hurdle with no payback.
Those Brits have such disgustingly horrible accents, renting and getting a big enough boat to put all the cars on and bring it back to Japan number two, and New Zealand made them a better offer.
Read this
The car you can’t buy , and it has nothing to do with brexit
Much cheaper trade with the EU, which I bet you don't mention.
It's nothing to do with Brexit.....before going on to detail exactly why it is Awesome.
Two of the three reasons directly related to Brexit. But presented otherwise. Odd
the diesel argument is one which holds less water when you consider the hybrid nature of the 2018 X-trail. You might wanna scoot over to the FT, as the letter that Nissan received certainly points to risk of no deal Brexit as being pretty key to their actions now.
On point 2. If we weren't leaving the EU then Nissan wouldn't need to move production would they? By moving out of the EU we run the risk of having to apply tariffs to our cars which the new deal means wont apply for cars built in Japan So Brexit is a key factor in this decision
'It's not about Brexit so here's the 3 real reasons - 2 of which are directly linked to Brexit and wouldn't be a problem if we were not leaving the EU'... but let's not bother pointing that out, because we're the BBC.'
If Brexit causes these manufacturers to leave the UK, then so be it. At least we can start repairing our culture/civilisation in the meantime.
This looks like one of those bizarre titles on an advert article like '10 celebrities you won't believe are straight' or 'The real reason you never see x in films any more'
Brexit
