Software company Teknol moves its engineering hub from Silicon Valley to Calgary yyc yycbiz yyctech

Teknol is a software-as-a-service company designed to assist small early-childhood learning centres in their administrative operations, giving them a platform to manage everything from payroll to collection of fees, marketing and communications.Rahul Beri, CEO and founder, said the company chose Calgary because of its talent pool, relative affordability compared to other Canadian tech centres and its location, being just a two-hour flight from its San Fransisco headquarters.

“We want to build a great part of our business team and engineering teams in Calgary,” he said. “We’re not just moving people, we want to grow in Calgary.” It has yet to finalize where its Calgary office will be, but noted the bulk of its hiring will be done in the first two years of its investment. He noted it will be relying on the talent-development pipelines flowing from the University of Calgary and University of Alberta to provide its future workforce. It will also be recruiting experienced talent as well.

He said labour makes up the bulk of costs for any IT company and the available manpower will be critical to its ability to expand.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary Herald, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
