The bus belonging to the Nigerian Correctional Service at the popular emirs’ market in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State on October 19, 2023.The accident occurred in the early hours of the day when the vehicle was conveying some suspects to courts at high speed. It then hit the people who were mostly commercial motorcycle riders – parked by the roadside.
While the initial fear was the death of four people, this was denied by the ‘okada’ riders association and authorities of the Ilorin Correctional Service.The pandemonium led to the deployment of security men drawn from the police and the Department of State Services who condoned off the areas around the Palace of the Emir of Ilorin and blocked the roads leading to Oja Oba, Isale Oja, Idi Ape and Ago Markets.
