The City of Cleveland says the West Side Market hall was closed for business Saturday due to a power outage

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Hundreds filed into the West Side Market hall Sunday to shop and dine after it was closed Saturday due to a power outage.

19 News issued a First Alert on Friday with high winds and rain. Thousands across northeast Ohio experienced power outages, including the historic market.Don Whitaker of D.W. Whitaker Meats says when he came to work Saturday morning, the power was out in his display cases.“It’s a big loss. You don’t want to wake up to that on a Saturday morning, that’s our busy day too,” said Whitaker. “Cleveland Public Power has had some power outages of late.

“The Market Hall was closed yesterday . The Produce Arcade was open all day. Both buildings are open regular hours today. The Bibb administration has allocated over $20.5M to make repairs to the fundamental building systems, including the electrical system. The non-profit is working to obtain tax credits to get another $10M and will launch a capital campaign later this year. The power outage affected the display cases.

All of this happening as the City of Cleveland announced West Side Market has been nominated for Best Public Market in the country.
