An LA councilwoman and noted cannabis activist who played a major part in the push for the legalization and regulation of cannabis in her city is accused of secretly profiting from the cannabis industry, according to an investigation by the Los Angeles Times.

Further muddying the waters is the fact that one of the producers with which she is involved is currently involved in litigation with the city of Lynwood over licensing issues. Additionally, Castro created a company that focuses on marketing “luxury” cannabis to female consumers—Candor Collections . Castro failed to disclose Weedmaps, or any other cannabis-industry participants, as clients when she filed her mandatory state financial reports.California law dictates that any elected official in the state that collects a minimum of USD$10,000 per year for consulting must identify those clients if they are conducting business, or intend to do so, within the jurisdiction of that official.
