One of Western Australia's largest butchers tells farmers it will no longer process their meat, effectively freezing some out of the state's farm-to-plate market.

"With the cost of living crisis, they will have less control over their purchasing decisions," she said. "In ensuring that we have profitability in selling our product, we're also offering a much better deal for our customers, because they have that choice."Margaret River farmer and restaurateur Ben McDondald said he had been using DBC to butcher pigs and lambs for his farm-to-table restaurant for over a decade.

DBC's decision came after Bunbury-based abattoir V&V Walsh ended its custom kill program earlier this year. He said while DBC's decision would impact the region's farmers, consumers would see little change in supply or price.
