Aer Lingus air hostesses and sisters Jackie Dillon and Leigh Cummins tell how they turned their downtime during the pandemic into a booming soap business - the Cork sisters explain how it all started

When Cork sisters Jackie Dillon and Leigh Cummins were left with more time on their hands due to Covid’s impact on the airline industry, they didn’t despair. Instead, they wisely used their newfound downtime to start a soap business, Opa!

Starting out In April 2021, Jackie and Leigh decided to make their idea a reality and the pair went into business together. “The soaps come in a square, brown bottle. It’s a foaming product, they are only €9, so it’s luxury at an affordable price. Once you go foam you won’t go back!” Expansion Opa! has since branched into hand creams, shower gels and candles due to the fierce demand. “We started making those after doing more courses and training,” Jackie explains.

The business has grown completely organically through word of mouth and social media, with Jackie adding they have never paid for advertisement.
