'Caring about price and not quality': Insiders say Australia's obsession with cheap solar is derailing the market

Some of the problems emerging in rooftop solar are the result of a massive growth in demand, fuelled by government subsidies.

The National Audit Office found some of the risks of batteries include electric shock, gas explosion, fire, and chemical exposure. "We need to remember that these types of batteries have been used in cars for many years. They're also not dissimilar to the batteries that are in many people's homes in the form of cordless power tools," he said. One of the big selling points of rooftop solar is the government incentives that reduce the cost of the systems for consumers, and form the basis for the national trade in carbon abatement.

But if the solar panels fail after just a few years, the certificate can still be used to offset emissions. This market for renewable energy, from rooftop solar, as well as wind and solar farms, is worth $1.5 billion-a-year and rising.

ABCscience No. Since the introduction of online sales, we’ve learnt how much we for goods compared to the rest of the world and are tired of being ripped off.

ABCscience I got this anonymous sms promotion 1 hour ago, plus my Instagram is flooded with similar priced advertising

Government incentive schemes often fail to achieve the ideal result. Look at home insulation deaths, home buyer schemes pushing up home prices, low energy light globe replacement with poor quality globes. Why should solar panels do any better? Cause, poor Government regulation!

The whole thing is a pathetic joke, look at this image with the nice white heat reflecting roofs (good) covered by almost black PV arrays (bad) that convert more than 60% of the visible light hitting them to heat that radiates right through those roofs. 🙄

Any ideas how to get on the list of properties to be inspected ? Can householders nominate their installation for inspection ?

I'd say Australians' obsession with cheap everything is ruining the whole society.

Two guarantees in Aus, we hate taxes and love cheap especially when subsidies are available

Solar and wind is killing birds?
