AUDIO: China's HK extradition law could affect investment: Penny Wong

Penny Wong, Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister; Leader of the Opposition in the SenateKIM LANDERS: Beijing is claiming that"foreigners" are seeking to create havoc in Hong Kong after hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets to protest against a new law allowing extradition to mainland China.

PENNY WONG: Well, what the Australian Government should do is assert the principles and values Australians would expect it to assert and that are, that is that we are a country that is a long standing, consistent advocate for human rights. KIM LANDERS: Are Australians, be they business people, academics or perhaps simply tourists transiting through Hong Kong, are they at risk now from this new law?

PENNY WONG: Well, the extradition treaty with China was something that Labor did not support ratification of in the previous term of the Parliament. We welcomed the Government's decision not to proceed with it. KIM LANDERS: So when you say 'cover', the independent MP, Andrew Wilkie, has said,"Look it can't be an enquiry by the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security," because his argument is that that's a committee dominated by the major parties. Do you agree with that?

The Chinese Regime goes too far. Absolutely no scruples when it comes to taking whatever it wants from whom ever has something better. China might have a 100year plan for their future but being scoundrels in the process is totally unnecessary and unwarranted.

...obviously; one should now consider Hong Kong as unequivocally the mainland; HK Democracy is now lost...
