Sokoto Market Fire: Government Offers Condolences and Support

Sokoto State Government has expressed its condolences and pledged support to victims of a devastating fire outbreak at the 'Karar-'Yan-Nika' section of Kara Market in Sokoto. The tragedy has left many traders in distress, with significant losses recorded across the market. The inferno, which tore through over 50 shops, destroyed 132 grinding machines and vast quantities of essential food items, including rice, millet, and beans.

The financial impact has been described as monumental, running into millions of naira and leaving many livelihoods in jeopardy. Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Gobir led the government’s response to the incident, personally visiting the affected area to offer words of sympathy and solidarity. During his visit, Gobir announced the establishment of a committee tasked with assessing the full extent of the damage. Highlighting the danger posed by the dry and windy harmattan conditions, Gobir urged market users and residents to adopt necessary fire prevention measures. He emphasized the importance of vigilance and preparedness to avert similar tragedies.
