The CEO of Twitter announced - via a tweet of course - that Twitter will roll out its tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week. There’s changes to the program that he apparently hopes will stop people from paying the $8 a month fee just to impersonate celebrities or companies. “All verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates,” he tweeted. “Painful, but necessary.
Charging users for a verified account is a key to Musk’s plan to make Twitter less dependent upon advertising revenue, which has accounted for more than 90% of its revenue to date, and stem the loss of cash as advertisers pull back from the social media platform. “All verified individual humans will have same blue check, as boundary of what constitutes ‘notable’ is otherwise too subjective,” Musk tweeted.
