ADCO Constructions, a contractor building a government high school on Sydney's Northern Beaches, has been fined $30,000 for polluting Curl Curl Creek. The creek is the only known habitat for climbing galaxias in Greater Sydney, and it's uncertain if the fish population survived the pollution.

The EPA has fined ADCO Constructions for polluting Curl Curl Creek on Sydney's Northern Beaches earlier this year.

Officers inspected the Allambie Heights site in June and observed it was the source of the polluted water which was running into the storm water system. "At the time of the incident adequate onsite pollution controls were not in place at the construction site, which is unacceptable," Mr Gordon said."It was horrendous pollution and it impacted an A-grade quality creek," said Malcolm Fisher from the Save Manly Dam Catchment Committee.

"So much mud and silt deposited in that area. It will gradually flush over time, but it was in a seriously sorry state," Mr Fisher said.Malcolm Fisher said the creek was in a "sorry state" months after the first discharge of sediment and mud."Curl Curl Creek is a highly diverse aquatic ecosystem," Mr Gordon said.
